CAN YOU HELP ENTERTAIN OR TEACH OUR HOMELESS GUESTS MUSIC THIS CHRISTMAS?
This year 4000 homeless people will spend 23rd – 29th of December with Crisis, as a guest in a Crisis at Christmas centre. These positive, bustling places are helping Make Christmas Happen for our guests, provide access to food, healthcare, massage, haircuts and a whole range of activities and entertainment. Our entertainment and the opportunity for creative expression is the first thing our guests notice on entering a centre. It’s the welcoming atmosphere that a talented performer or tutor can create that ensures our guests enjoy their stay and take part in our life transforming services.
We need performers and tutors that would like to spend some time kindling a creative spark in those most neglected and forgotten at Christmas time.
Our guests include rough sleepers, vulnerable women, those with dependency issues or with high support needs. What unites them is a love of creative expression and arts.
The chance to enjoy or take part in performing arts helps our guests to regain confidence, build self esteem and shake off the depression or frustration homelessness causes.
It is a vital activity for wellbeing and it’s something we can build on; members that were first introduced to music at Crisis at Christmas have gone on to join our songwriting, guitar, percussion and singing workshops. Those who thought they never could go on to perform live, even opening for Paul Weller!
Note that performers and tutors must be 16+, with under 18s accompanied by an adult.
