Hello world!
I am currently in Venice Beach on the west side of LA exploring the busking scene and busking a little myself as I prepare strike out on the road east back to New York. I will be posting here throughout this cross-country busking adventure in an effort to experience and document life on the road as a busker and chronicle the world of West Coast busking — the bylaws, culture and community.

Venice Beach, West Coast Busking Mecca
Venice Beach has long been a busking Mecca and a stronghold for street culture of all kinds. From the wild array of live performance and visual artists who line the boardwalk, to the skate community, ‘muscle beach’ athletes and aquatic sports freaks — there is a show for the most outlandish or conventional of tastes.
Busking is taken to a whole new level on the Venice Boardwalk and is blurred by myriad performance tactics that may leave an audience confounded. Traditional buskers abound with their cases and collection hats out, however many performers are dishing it out without expecting much of anything back ~ like the rappers, roller dancers, costumed bike riders, beat makers… oh and this guy:
